Be Tire Smart Week to be Celebrated in Canada April 24-30, 2005

Toronto (March 3, 2005) - The Rubber Association of Canada and the Government of Canada are pleased to announce that the second national Be Tire Smart Week will be held April 24-30, 2005. As part of the ongoing "Be Tire Smart - Play Your Part" campaign, Be Tire Smart Week aims to educate drivers about the safety and environmental benefits of proper tire inflation and maintenance.

Numerous partners from across the country, including tire manufacturers, tire dealers and other automotive retailers, participated in last year's Be Tire Smart Week, educating Canadians about proper tire maintenance.

Be Tire Smart Week is an opportunity for Canadian auto service and repair practitioners to provide their customers with helpful tire maintenance information and tips. By educating motorists with this important information, technicians can reinforce their position as a trusted source for automotive-related information - benefiting both the customer and the business. Proper tire inflation and maintenance practices will also help motorists to meet their One-Tonne Challenge by reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

"We're expecting wide participation from auto service practitioners with this year's Be Tire Smart Week," said Glenn Maidment, President of The Rubber Association of Canada. "Through their authoritative voice, many more Canadians will learn the benefits of proper tire inflation and maintenance."

As part of the campaign, the Rubber Association of Canada and the Government of Canada have brochures and posters available for retailers to help spread the word about the tire safety and environmental benefits of proper tire care.
